The Mikado by Gilbert & Sullivan.
25 Nov 2004. Presented by the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, with the Carl Rosa Opera Company of London conducted by Wyn Davies. Carl Rosa Operas new production of The Mikado is a historic re-creation of the original authorised Savoy production of 1885. Gilberts authenticated prompt book has been the source for the direction, staging and choreography. This production presents a faithful reproduction of the original stage settings, together with historic costumes. Many drawings, photographs, designs and research material have been unearthed for this ongoing project that has taken four years to coordinate. Carl Rosa Opera is a national touring company of 65 musicians, singers and technicians. Its aim is to bridge the perceived gap between traditional grand opera and popular music, while pursuing new styles and openness in a policy of innovation. In English with Italian sub-titles.
