The Nutcracker
The favourite of all Christmas ballets is danced by the Balletto di Roma, with Andre De La Roche in the lead role. But this version, staged two years ago, is not just a sugary fairytale. The Nutcracker was premiered on 18 December 1892 at the Marinsky theatre in St Petersburg, choreographed by Petipa on a score by Tchaikovsky, to the story by E.T.A Hoffmann.
