The Villa D'Este in Tivoli.

Built for the Cardinal Ippolito D'Este around 1555, this is one of the most famous and complex renaissance water gardens in the world. Water from the nearby river Aniene was channeled under the city of Tivoli to feed the gardens vast range of spectacular fountains, including the celebrated organ fountain. Cascades, pools, water staircases, grottoes and nymphs are revealed at every turn. The villa has a bar, and restaurant on the terrace overlooking the gardens and there is a bookshop.

Special facilities are available which provide access to the garden for the disabled.

Closed on Mondays (except for public holidays)

and on 1 Jan, 1 May and 25 Dec.

Tickets 6.50 reduced tickets 3.50 for all EU citizens under 24 or over 65 years of age (present an identity document)
