4-21 Sept 2003. This festival is dedicated to the late composer Luciano Berio. The opening concert features the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta, performing Mahlers Settima Sinfonia in SI minore. There are 54 events on the rich programme, which also spotlights musicians from the East including Toru Takemitsu, Tanaka Yukio, Kifu Mitushashi, and includes a performance by dancers and musicians from the National Theatre of Cambodia. Western tradition is by no means neglected either, with top names from the classical music world taking part and a week dedicated to Bruckner.
