24-28 June. This is the last production before the Teatro dell' Opera di Roma moves to the Baths of Caracalla for the summer season.
It is a re-run of March's successful new production directed by the talented South African director Alessandro Alevi with a change of cast. Tosca is sung by Tatiana Serjan and Virginia Tolan, Cavaradossi by Aquiles Machado and Stefano La Colla (who also sang the part in March) and Scarpia by Claudio Sgura.
Talevi has based his staging on original material from the world premiere in 1900. He has used the site-specific Rome locations, S. Andrea della Valle, Palazzo Farnese and finally Castel S. Angelo, much as the composer and librettist imagined it, but he has added many of his own touches throughout to appeal, as he said, “to a modern audience”.
