7-17 July 2006. This is undoubtedly one of the oldest and most important jazz festivals in Europe. Names to look out for this year are Wayne Shorter, Hank Jones, Diana Krall, Brad Meldau. However, what was once a festival for lovers of jazz which is the music of the people and should be accessible to all has become a fashionable event for those who can afford the wildly expensive tickets for the main events. The programme too is increasingly filled with concerts that have nothing to do with jazz, but are likely to draw crowds: this year it stars James Brown, Caetano Veloso and Carlos Santana.
