10-19 July. Once Umbria Jazz was all about jazz, now it is increasingly about how to attract the crowds to fill S. Giuliana stadium, especially in a time of increasingly scarce resources. But there is always the hope that the passion of the jazz fans will also wash off on those who come only come for the pop.

There are 250 events throughout the city which include, Paolo Conti (who opens the festival on 10 July), Stefano Bollani (12 July), Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock (14 July), Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga (15 July), Robert Glasper followed by Cassandra Wilson with her tribute to Billie Holiday (16 July), Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil (17 July), Orlando Julius (19 July).

These are just the stars performing on the main S. Giuliano stage. Then there are also the performances at Teatro Morlacchi, the Giardini Carlucci, Piazza IV Novembre in the historic centre, the lunchtime and evening programmes at Bottega del Vino, clinics at Jazz Club Perugia, and so the list goes on.

This year the three posters are inspired by Alberto Burri, from his series Sestante, to celebrate the centenery of his birth and 20 years since his death. For full details see www.umbriajazz.com.
