Venezia Scarlatta: Lotto, Savoldo, Cariani
15 March-11 June. Palazzo Barberini presents six works by three Venetian Renaissance masters - Lorenzo Lotto, Girolamo Savoldo and Giovanni Cariani - on loan from the Metropolitan in New York, the Louvre, Prado, and the Accademia Carrara di Bergamo.
The exhibition concentrates on the paintings' use of scarlet, a highly-prized colour in the Middle Ages, whose jealously-guarded pigment formula was handed down by painters, dyers and alchemists.
