9 May-22 Nov. The 2015 edition of the prestigious Venice Biennale is titled All the World’s Futures, whose theme is devoted to "a fresh appraisal of the relationship of art and artists to the current state of things", according to its curator, the influential Nigerian art critic Okwui Enwezor.
The event comprises artists, filmmakers, choreographers, performers, composers, and writers from 89 countries, of whom Grenada, Mauritius, Mongolia, Republic of Mozambique, and Republic of Seychelles are exhibiting for the first time.
Representing the US is Joan Jonas, the pioneer of video and performance art, while the UK is represented by leading British contemporary artist Sarah Lucas, and Ireland is represented by the up-and-coming visual artist Sean Lynch.
This showcase of contemporary international art is held every two years and is now 120 years old. The 56th Venice Biennale takes place at the historic Giardini and Arsenale as well as at various venues throughout the city.
