Vito Acconci.
19 Nov-20 Feb 2005. Barcelonas Contemporary Art Museum is hosting an exhibition of work by American artist Vito Acconci that looks at his career from the mid 1960s to the early 1980s in poetry, performance, photography, film and video, a selection of installations, models and architectural projects. Born in New York in 1940, Acconci started out as a poet during the 1960s, writing under the name Vito Hannibal Acconci. Later his poetic actions moved from paper to the gallery and into performances. During the 1970s his performances and installations, featuring the artist physically or through voice, helped to erase the traditional boundaries between an artist and his public. In the early 1980s, his interest in space led him to create the Acconci Studio, which brought together architects and artists. The organisers have prepared a database containing over 13 hours of Acconcis audio work from the 1970s, including a large amount of unreleased material.
