Each year an independent jury at the World Press Photo Foundation in Amsterdam selects images for this prestigious recognition of international photojournalism.
Among the 53 photographs from 25 countries on show is the winning entry by American John Stanmeyer.
His image depicts a group of migrants on a beach in Djibouti, holding their telephones towards a moonlit sky to receive a signal to reach their relations in neighbouring Somalia.
