World Press Photo
29 April-29 May. Each year an independent jury at the World Press Photo Foundation in Amsterdam selects images for this prestigious recognition of international photojournalism.
This year’s 42 award-winning photographers come from 21 different countries: Australia, Austria, Brasil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Turkey and the US.
The winning photograph was taken by Australian freelance photojournalist Warren Richardson, originally from Australia but currently based in eastern Europe. Titled Hope for New Life, the dramatic black and white image shows a baby being passed through barbed wire by refugees crossing the border between Horgoš, Serbia and Röszke, Hungary.
In addition to its normal opening hours the exhibition can be viewed on Friday nights until 23.00. For full details see website.
