3 Feb-31 March 2005. Xcentric is Barcelona's premier film festival dedicated to the avant-garde, experimental and animation. Alongside existing themes such as Variations of the Real, Rewriting, and Monographics February and March sees the launch of Theatre in the Veins. All these works share a very personal approach to the subject matter. Amongst the avant-garde short films and videos is a treasure trove of incredibly rare offerings like Jean Renoirs Essais pour une partie de campagne (1936), and Beppie (1965) by Johan van Der Kreuken. Later in the festival, shorts by the likes of Ren Magritte and Jean Cocteau as well as by a side selection of lesser known artists such as Owen Land, Marie Menken and Gregory J Markopoulus, will be making an appearance.
