Bar S. Calisto in Rome
Hanging out at Rome's Bar S. Calisto is invariably a colourful experience.
The cheap prices at this down-at-heel bar, situated just off Trastevere's main piazza, attract an eclectic mix of students, artists, writers, tourists and local characters.
Due to its popularity it can be difficult to get a table outside in the evening, and after a while the crowd spills out into the square, soaking up the atmosphere and cheap drinks.
At night-time, be prepared to join a long queue for the bar's no-frills toilet facilities.
