Dar Filettaro a S. Barbara
Specialising in filetti di baccalà - delicious, crispy battered cod fillets - Dar Filettaro is the nearest thing Rome has to a fish and chip shop.
Located in a tiny piazza off Via dei Giubbonari, between Campo de' Fiori and Via Arenula, the restaurant puts heavy emphasis on its signature dish which many would describe as the best in Rome.
The filetti di baccalà can either be eaten at the restaurant, which also has tables outdoors, or else wrapped up to take away as a tasty street food snack.
Despite its no-nonsense service and small menu (although it does serve house wine and beer), Dar Filettaro has been popular with locals and curious tourists for the last six decades.
Mon-Sat 17.30-22.45. Sun closed.
