La Carbonara
Located on Via Panisperna in the heart of the Monti district, La Carbonara is something of an institution on the Roman restaurant scene.
Established in 1906, this popular osteria offers a decent selection of authentic Roman food such as strozzapreti and cacio e pepe pasta; artichokes; coda alla vaccinara; gnocchi on Thursdays, baccalà on Fridays and tripe on Saturdays. Its wine list is also generous.
The cuisine is down-to-earth but tasty and the graffiti-covered walls and closely-placed tables generate an informal and intimate ambience.
